SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE NEW "PORTALS" BODY OF WORK! The Katrina Collection is a series of mixed media assemblages which incorporate storm debris from Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav. There are approximately 1000 pieces in the collection to date, so most of the pieces are in the archives, located on the right hand side of the poage-just scroll down a little bit.
INRI was built around the acrylic depiction of Jesus on the cross. I mounted it on a piece of wood molding, and surrounded it with raffia. It is mounted in a wood box and a fancy picture frame, and two pieces of a wrecked parlor chair form the top and bottom of the piece. This piece calls to mind the Christian (primarily Roman Catholic) phenomenon of stigmata, which are bodily marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus. Talk about portals.
