SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE NEW "PORTALS" BODY OF WORK! The Katrina Collection is a series of mixed media assemblages which incorporate storm debris from Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav. There are approximately 1000 pieces in the collection to date, so most of the pieces are in the archives, located on the right hand side of the poage-just scroll down a little bit.
Bon Voyage reflects my love of travel. The folk painting inside the double "compartments" is holding on to a couple of birds, signifying love for home, while the oversized hand and arm are literally bursting outside the compartment, eager to be on the way. I fashioned this piece from two decorative boxes, the folk painting, an arm from a child-size manekin, a second piece of folk art, a decorative embellishment and a parrot feather. I had two pillowcases full of parrot feathers before Katina, and hated losing those much more than losing the couch or that brand new stovetop.
